Good evening! For those of you who don’t already know me, I’m Kathleen. Congratulations, bride and groom, and thank all of you for coming here today. Bride, you look positively stunning, and groom, you look so great without facial hair.
I met Bride the summer before our freshman year of college. I didn’t know at the time that this short, skinny, cool, quiet girl would end up being my best friend for over a decade.
Evidently, Bride met Groom in college, too. They had the same major. They even had several classes together, but they didn’t know each other. It’s funny how life works sometimes, isn’t it? We graduated from college, and they went their separate ways. But Pacific University is small, and their mutual friend, Matt, re-introduced these two, years later.
For those of you who aren’t aware, Bride is lovingly called “Planny Pants” and in the summer of 2009, she organized all kinds of get-togethers: dancing at 80s night, barbecues at our apartment, fun times with Owen, beer festivals seemingly every weekend — we did it all! Somehow Groom ended up on the invite list to just about everything. They started spending time together, sometimes even without me!
They finally admitted to each other that they made a pretty good pair, and from that point on, there was no looking back. Bride had fallen for Groom, and he’d fallen right back.
It has been wonderful seeing these two together. I get to spend quite a bit of time with both bride and groom, and for that, I feel really lucky. One of my favorite parts of the week is our family dinners — we have dinner at each other’s houses once a week — and we haven’t skipped many in the last two years. When I found out it was one of groom’s favorite parts of the week, too, I knew he was a keeper.
Bride and Groom, I can see you both making a success of everything you do together.
Homer said, “There is nothing nobler or more admirable than when two people who see eye to eye keep house as man and wife, confounding their enemies and delighting their friends.”
So ladies and gentlemen, and best man:
I would like to offer a toast: to my best friend bride, her wonderful husband Groom, and a life filled with friendship, happiness, love and family dinners.
